Mushrooms are one of the best foods to grow at home since they don’t require any gardening experience or large areas. The best part is you’ll have a mouthwatering ingredient to add to a variety of recipes!
With that said, here are my favorite fungi recipes:
1 – Sauteed Mushroom With Garlic
The easiest way to enjoy your homegrown mushrooms in all their glory is to saute them with herbs and spices. You can then enjoy your mushrooms as an entree, a side, or a healthy main.
This recipe works with any mushroom variety, and the best part is you can add any herbs you prefer.
I find that a little bit of garlic is enough to elevate any dish, including sauteed mushrooms.
2 – Mushroom Piccata
Who says you can’t enjoy your favorite dishes after going vegan?
Mushroom is a godsend for vegans, not just for its protein content, but its texture makes it the perfect meat substitute.
You can use mushrooms in place of meat in any dish. However, my personal favorite has to be creamy mushroom piccata.
To make for an even more interesting recipe, select a mix of different fungi to get variable textures and richer flavors.
3 – Mushroom Pepper Fry
If you prefer a kick to your dishes, look no further than the delicious mushroom pepper fry recipe!
This dish is as straightforward as it gets. All you have to do is fry your mushrooms along with some bell peppers and jalapenos for the vegetarian main dish of your dreams.
4 – Mushroom Risotto
The first thing that comes to mind when mentioning mushrooms is a creamy mushroom risotto. This recipe is my go-to if I’m having guests over or want to enjoy a fancy dinner.
The rich, creamy texture of mushroom risotto is incredibly heartwarming, making it the ideal dinner for cold days.
5 – Creamy Mushroom Pasta
So, you want to enjoy the flavor of homegrown mushrooms? A creamy pasta dish is where the mushrooms will shine.
Using only butter, pasta, and fresh mushrooms will make for an irresistible dinner. The trick is to thicken the sauce with some pasta water.
You might end up growing mushrooms just to enjoy this dish!
6 – Beef Stroganoff
I can’t mention my favorite mushroom recipes without listing beef stroganoff. This classic dish never goes out of style. There are numerous variations of beef stroganoff, and each one is as tasty as the next.
You can use any meat cut for this recipe. Yet, tenderloin and mushroom are a match made in heaven.
7 – Cream of Mushroom Soup
If it’s your first time stepping in the kitchen, one recipe I’d tell you to learn is cream of mushroom soup. It’s incredibly simple, but results in a complex, mouthwatering flavor.
This soup is perfect, regardless of the occasion. You can whip it up if you want a hearty, winter soup, or serve it to complement any dinner.
8 – Grilled Mushroom Salad
Mushrooms truly work in any recipe, including salads. Roasting or grilling your mushrooms transforms them into the perfect salad base.
That’s because the mushrooms will add a smoky flavor, as well as a crunchy bite to your salad. They’re also pretty nutritious, increasing the protein content of your dish.
9 – Mushroom Veggie Burger
There’s nothing like a well-seasoned burger to put you in a good mood. Fortunately, whether you’re a vegan or just have a bounty of homegrown mushrooms, a mushroom veggie burger is the tastiest healthy take on the classic dish.
All you have to do is mince your fungi and season it as you would a burger. Then, cook up the meat alternative at your next barbecue and watch your guests be amazed!
10 – Smokey Mushroom Skewers
Another excellent vegan barbecue option is mushroom skewers. This recipe works with any mushroom you have. Make sure you’re seasoning your homegrown mushrooms properly.
If you don’t own a grill, you can also pop the mushrooms in the air fryer for 10 minutes. The result: an addicting dish that even meat lovers will appreciate.
11 – Mushroom Omelet
Mushrooms also work as a part of your breakfast. While you can sautee your mushroom as it is, adding it to your omelet makes for a tasty, healthy spin on the classic breakfast food.
No one likes raw mushrooms or overcooked eggs, though. This is why I always recommend cooking the mushroom filling first, then heating it with the omelet right before serving.
12 – Wild Mushroom Toast
I don’t know about you, but breakfast is my favorite meal. Luckily, I’ve found numerous ways to incorporate homegrown mushrooms into my mornings.
Grilled mushroom on toast is incredibly simple yet delicious. I love using wild mushrooms for the umami flavor.
It also pairs perfectly with hollandaise sauce and spinach. Still, you can use a simple mayonnaise spread and cheese.
13 – Portobello Mushroom Pizza
If you have homegrown portobello mushrooms, this pizza is a must. It’s a protein-filled alternative to the classic Italian dish that’s just as delicious. All there is to the recipe is cutting your mushroom and using it in place of the pizza dough.
Don’t worry, though! You don’t need to grow a gigantic mushroom. Instead, mini-pizzas allow you to experiment with the toppings and baking time.
